I'm passionate about painting and now I have the time and space to indulge my passion. My skill base has been developed in a wide variety of locations over a long career including a formal study of Contempory Fine Art under the Scottish Higher National Diploma programme in Dundee, as well as many short courses . I'm continually researching new ideas in a ranges of genres and media to expand my skill set.
As a former member of the Dundee Art Society I was regularly exposed to critical appraisals in quarterly exhibitions and have been privileged to exhibit in a range of venues in and around Dundee including: the Roseangle Gallery; Discovery Point; Hannah McLure Centre of Abertay University; Auld Kirk Tayport, Broughty Ferry Art Society, also in a wide range of art and craft fairs in small and private venues across Europe. In 2003 Stow College, Glasgow invited my input as Artist in Residence.
I now work in my Costa Blanca studio and participate in local art groups. The light here is wonderful and colours bright. I enjoy working in a broad range of mediums such as graphite, charcoal and conte, pastels, watercolours, oils and acrylics but also enjoy experimental techniques.
One of my interests is working with old black and white photographs to bring them to life in full colour. I also enjoy creating portraits from photographs and digital images.
TV Channel 4's "Sun, Sea and Selling Houses" programme presented a challenge to me by commissioning an oil painting for one of their episodes. The script required a surreal oil painting featuring the cast, it had to be completed within 3 days. They wanted to invoke the spirit of their delight in matching client needs to appropriate properties. The painting illustrates how father supports the business with delighted mother's enthusiasm for the family who present the finest properities to customers. It's entitled "The Casas Manuel family happily presenting the best properties"
As you can see I paint for pleasure and enjoy creative challenges.
