This portrait of an old friend is oil on stretched canvas. It was completed in one sitting at an art group workshop  to demonstrate the use of a limited palette painting wet on wet.

A break from play inspired this acrylic on canvas portrait.

On his way to Torrevieja carnival this young boy's costume and pose was too good to let pass. It was completed in acrylic on canvas board from a digital phone camera image.

"Dave looking good at 60" 2017

This oil on canvas portrait was painted as a surprise gift so had to be completed without the knowledge of the sitter. The source  was a telephoto digital image.

"Great granddaughters"

This was commissioned by a proud great grandmother. Its oil on canvas mounted on board.


This 10cm x 15cm is acrylic on canvas board. Its a popular size for family gift portraits as there can be a large selection of frame styles for mounting. When unmounted this size easily fits into hand luggage also low cost postal services.

"Stewart McLaren" 2018

This oil sketch was completed with a limited palette wet on wet on stretched canvas.

"Celebrating 60 happy years"

This oil on canvas was commissioned to celebrate 60 years of marriage. The source image was a sepia print from the wedding day.

"Jose" 2017

Oil on canvas portrait of a hardworking gardener who had just finished cutting down and removing a tall tree. The smile on the lips of this serious man gave a glimps into  his sense of achievement on comlpetion of such a mammoth task. I was lucky to catch this flash of happiness on camera as it inspired this work

"Stan and Winnie" 2016

This large oil on canvas was commissioned to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The source image (shown in the bottom of the frame) is from an instamatic camera print. Short sittings helped with details.

"The three grandchildren" 2019

This was a challenge from a proud grandmother who wanted a portrait set out as in a picture  of them taken 35 years earlier. She let me have the original along with two recent prints to construct the painting. It is oil on stretched canvas.
